Transforming a Community

Aloha Residents Come Together to Start a Library

Anyone who doesn't believe in the power of libraries to bring a community together should visit Aloha Oregon. Located in a suburb of Portland, Aloha was once one of the most populous, unincorporated areas in Oregon without a library. In 2011, community members met in response to a growing demand for a community space and, specifically, a library space.

From that meeting, the Aloha Community Library Association was born. Aloha library is 100 percent donor-funded and is operated by an expansive group of volunteers, including a network of public and school librarians. This means that everything from the computers to the books and materials and programs are the direct result of donations.
