Las Vegas-Clark County Selects EnvisionWare Renaissance™for Major RFID/AMH Project
in North America
Las Vegas, NV Daniel L. Walters, Executive Director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and past president of the Public Library Association (PLA), announced today that EnvisionWare has been awarded a contract to provide turnkey Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Automated Materials Handling (AMH) systems to all urban libraries throughout the system. The technology commitment is part of a reprogramming of the Library District that defines a new generation of self-service in public libraries. “We continue to experience tremendous usage while remaining committed to superior levels of customer service. The new technology will facilitate our ability to meet present demands and aid us in the delivery of new programs,” said Walters.
EnvisionWare’s co-founder and Vice President, Mike Monk said, “We are fortunate in being selected to partner with a library with this kind of vision. Beyond the obvious benefits of RFID and AMH, our Company will be delivering new technologies that enable faster and better service while improving efficiency. Advanced reporting tools, Windows® Mobile devices for staff, and a local service center that delivers 24x7 response are some of the essential components of our offering.”
P.V. Supa is an OEM supplier of RFID/AMH technology to EnvisionWare. The companies collaborate on the design, delivery, and support of open standard, high performance solutions for libraries and collectively enjoy an unparalleled reputation for service excellence. Pekka Väisänen, P.V. Supa President, said “Working with a visionary organization like Las Vegas-Clark County will result in expansion of technology. The impact of this project will be far reaching and will have an effect on the greater community of libraries around the world.”
A pilot library will be installed in ninety days followed by successive branch rollouts. Steve Rice, General Services Director, has a formidable task ahead. The Library District is reshaping the interior of all libraries so that the new technology blends with the building. This is part of a new strategy to un-tether staff from stationary desks and to open the spaces to provide a more pleasing visual experience. Remodeling includes creation of new, glass-walled rooms so that patrons can see the new automated materials handling systems in action.
Each branch will use Innovative Interfaces’ graphical self-check that is RFID-enabled by EnvisionWare’s new I-Link™ software. Other components include AcrylicDesign™ security gates that send alarms to a LibraryPDA™; a self-service return/sorter; RFID-enabled Millcirc for staff; and other components that create a complete Next Generation experience. Administrative tools will provide centralized administration and web-based reporting.
A large central sorter will distribute items into totes for delivery to each location. The new central sorter is planned for installation in a new Centennial Hills branch that is under construction. In December, the library received approval to construct new administration facilities and a new branch at Compass Point.
EnvisionWare has opened a new regional service center in Las Vegas, increasing its service centers to six globally and amending its global presence to twelve offices. Mike Carl, a former employee of Las Vegas-Clark County, has joined EnvisionWare as a field technician and head of the new Las Vegas operation.
Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is a system of twenty-four branches. Two additional branches are planned or under construction. The District has a collection of approximately 2.5 million items and annual circulation over ten million. For more information, visit www.lvccld.org.

Cincinnati, OH The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has begun the final phase of a two part migration to the complete EnvisionWare Suite. The power of PC Reservation® technology coupled with the company's LPT:One print management system, and seamlessly integrated with Launch Command Kiosk Menu and EnvisionWare Central Management make up the most powerful Suite for public PC management available. The migration began with phase 1 November 2007 and is being completed this month. The Library deploys technology using a mixture of thin clients and Windows PCs. "EnvisionWare looks and acts the same whether on native Windows or in a Terminal Services or Citrix session," said Debbie Bruno, EnvisionWare Regional Manager for the Northeast. She added, "Working in harmony with our partner, Bill Routt of SirsiDynix, we were able to deliver a migration strategy that has been seamless for the library.
This library is one of the busiest libraries in the country and has a rich 150 year history as a leading library system. It boasts the second largest public library collection in the United States, over 5 million volumes and an annual circulation of over 14 million items. The system operates a large central library and 41 branches.
Said Bruno, "The Cincinnati and Hamilton County system adds to the largest installed base of EnvisionWare libraries in any single state in the U.S. We are honored to have been selected by such a prestigious institution."

Lithopolis, OH EnvisionWare, the world’s largest publisher of library self-service solutions, has been chosen as the system to upgrade the seven member libraries and five branch libraries that comprise the Central Library Consortium.
Paula Dayhoff, Assistant Systems Administrator, ran exhausive tests using EnvisionWare's expanded evaluation program. An essential component of migration was the need for complete compatiblity with the consortium's 8e6 Technologies R3000 filtering system. Thanks to EnvisionWare's Profile-based Filtering support, one of two integrated filtering control mechanisms, the system was designed to switch filtering profiles dynamically as a patron logs in to a session. The patron's type (BTYPE for this system) and/or age can be used to create unlimited unique filtering profiles.
Because EnvisionWare's system links directly to the ILS patron database, the need for any data migration other than possible print deposit funds is non existent. Eliminating synchronization concerns with patron records and in particular, PINs, the direct connection to the Horizon database coupled with the ability to easily convert one library at a time, made migration a seamless experience for library patrons.
CLC joins the nearly 5,000 libraries that use PC Reservation and LPT:One to control public computers and manage printing. Nearly 20% of EnvisionWare's PC management customers have migrated from legacy solutions.
EnvisionWare is the largest provider of time and print management systems and serves public and academic libraries around the globe. EnvisionWare sells its products through ILS partnerships with Polaris, SirsiDynix, TLC/CARL, VTLS and regional partners around the globe.

Conyers, GA EnvisionWare, the world's largest publisher of PC management solutions, announced that Conyers-Rockdale has moved to the EnvisionWare Suite which features the functionality of the Company's PC Reservation® and LPT:One solutions.
Discussing the migration experience, the library's systems librarian offered these comments, "Everything is working absolutely beautifully, and we appreciate more than we can say, all the help you provided." The EnvisionWare Implementation Consultant for the migration project characterized the staff's opinion as "beyond ecstatic at how well everything is working." The library staff added. "You provided the best support we could have ever imagined."
Because of a steady stream of conversions, EnvisionWare's developers created a point-and-click migration utility that converts the financial information in legacy systems to a format that can be used in EnvisionWare's open database design. Mike Monk, EnvisionWare Vice President, said, "We can migrate data in minutes. We have a well-defined migration strategy that considers the impact of a migration from one system to another and, in particular, the impact of a multi-branch conversion. Because we can deploy our system one branch at a time, we have solutions that consider funds on deposit in the old system and funds in our system, and the financial and public service impact of a planned change." Unlike many of the competitive systems, EnvisionWare typically uses the ILS as the sole patron database for public libraries. A separate database is used for money on deposit for those library management systems that do not support a link to the deposit account in the ILS.
EnvisionWare is the largest provider of time and print management systems and serves public and academic libraries around the globe. Operating nine regional offices and six regional service centers, an EnvisionWare expert is close to most of EnvisionWare's more than 5,500 libraries.

ATLANTA EnvisionWare, the world’s largest publisher of public and academic library self-service solutions, has been chosen as the solution to upgrade twenty three libraries in the State of Delaware that are presently running a PC management solution from another vendor. The Delaware Division of Libraries is the largest single migration to join the hundreds of libraries around the U.S. that have chosen to migrate from legacy solutions to EnvisionWare PC Management. Some of the upgrade goals included considerations for reliability, WAN performance, reduction in local IT support requirements, reduced staff involvement in routine management of the system, and a preference for access to a larger support team that could provide continuing support. Near the end of a two month trial at one busy library the staff remarked, “We are very happy with the whole package that EnvisionWare provides. The library users are pleased and impressed. Customer/tech service staff has been very helpful and patient. Internet use in the library has become an ancillary function with negligible staff involvement.”
Early in the evaluation process it became apparent that the libraries would need to replace the proprietary hardware from the former vendor with new cash management equipment and receipt printers. EnvisionWare provided a special migration program to facilitate the move to its open architecture hardware. The software migration was performed in phases with EnvisionWare Field Engineers assisting local technical staff in the system wide deployment. As each new library went live, it was managed locally and centrally by the library technical staff with backup at EnvisionWare’s World Class Support Center in Atlanta using EnvisionWare Central Management.
To obtain full compliance with the system’s goals, one new software feature was required which involved an enhancement to the EnvisionWare User Validation Rules Wizard. That update was actually delivered in a maintenance release that was posted during the original trial period. As such the library was able to evaluate a released version of the EnvisionWare PC Management Suite that exactly matched all of their requirements. EnvisionWare’s use of Agile development facilitated that objective. “Several years ago our company adopted Agile programming so that we could deliver one standard package of software with frequent, often monthly, releases of code. Customers can upgrade at their convenience and releases are inclusive of prior updates. This means that any customer can adopt a new feature at any time without the need to install prior updates”, said Tom Hickey, VP of Support and Development. EnvisionWare gets rave reviews for its products and services from every branch of the public library systems in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles and thousands more listed openly on the Company’s web site. The Company has an architecture and business model that works well for all libraries regardless of size or budget.

Miami, FL Miami-Dade Public Library System has become the newest large library system to join the EnvisionWare family of global customers. Working collaboratively with partner, SirsiDynix, EnvisionWare has provided a migration strategy to help one of America's great large library systems to move from a legacy PC/Print management system to the EnvisionWare Suite that incorporates PC Reservation® and LPT:One technology.
Many factors entered into the library's decision to move to EnvisionWare. The assurance of seamless integration with Horizon, plug and play operation with existing Jamex coin-ops, dynamic language technology, and the robust, distributed processing architecture are just some of the important qualities that factored into the library's decision.
A seamless migration strategy was also an essential element. Many libraries use funds on deposit for printing, and when considering a financial shift coupled with public service and staff training concerns, a migration of forty-two libraries is no small undertaking. "Fortunately," said Mike Monk, Company Vice President, "we have tools and consulting expertise that make migrations relatively painless. So many of our recent customers have moved from competitive systems. This has resulted in the creation and complete testing of migration project plans that can easily be adapted to the unique needs of every library."
The Miami-Dade Public Library system has an annual circulation of over 5 million items and a service area population ithat exceeds 2 million. The design of PC Reservation® is well suited to libraries of all sizes and it scales better than any system available, to the needs of the largest library systems. EnvisionWare connects directly to the ILS for validation. Miami-Dade is a SirsiDynix Horizon customer. EnvisionWare’s software uses all of the enhanced SIP2 fields to make patron access rules and to control filtering for many libraries. SirsiDynix and EnvisionWare collaborated on the development strategy for enhanced SIP2.
EnvisionWare is the world’s largest supplier of end-to-end self-service solutions. EnvisionWare continues to set the bar for innovation and ease of use in self-service for libraries. All EnvisionWare solutions are designed and priced to fit the needs of every size and type of library. Today, more public libraries use EnvisionWare PC Management products than any other solution.

Columbus, OH Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) is rolling out OneStop check out systems to all of its twenty-one locations as part of a massive upgrade program to embrace the Next Generation of self-service technology. The rollout of the self-check systems is the second phase of a six month project to realize a 100% self-service check out goal and to provide a seamless experience for customers. In early September, the Library went live with EnvisionWare eCommerce Services which enabled web-based fine payments using credit cards. “The success of this project exceeded our predictions. The convenience of web-based payment for fines using a credit card resulted in an immediate and rather surprising increase in collections. It now provides a sound core for realization of our next public service goal which is self-service fine payment during checkout all with the intent of an exceptional experience for our customers,” said Scott Fothergill, Director of Information Systems.
The rollout represents an upgrade for that library that is migrating from another product to the EnvisionWare solution. Five key factors drew CML to the use of EnvisionWare OneStop. The library wanted an interface that provided 100% customization; integrated self-service fine payment using credit cards and cash; full Unicode support and multiple languages with the delivery; a platform that could be easily upgraded from the Administration facility; and a vendor with a reputation for responsiveness and unimpeachable service. Predicated on the library’s experience with EnvisionWare PC Reservation® for computer management; LPT:One™ for print control, and EnvisionWare eCommerce Services™ for fine payment, the assurance of support and enhancement responsiveness was well known.
Columbus Metropolitan Library uses a library-developed ILS called Discovery Place. Some of the SIP enhancements for fine payment required collaboration from EnvisionWare who provided technical guidance and who referred a programmer to the library to aid in the rapid adoption of SIP enhancements. “We also added some new functionality in our products to address the specific needs of CML, said Mike Monk, Vice President of EnvisionWare. The Library wanted special debt collect rules for eCommerce and assistance with adoption of the Library’s custom page designs for self-check which are created entirely with HTML.
Columbus Metropolitan Library operates twenty-one locations and circulates 16 million items per year. Hennen ranked CML as one of the top three libraries in the United States in 2006 and number one in 2005. EnvisionWare is the world’s leading supplier of self-service solutions for libraries. Serving over 5,000 libraries around the globe, the Company operates regional offices and service centers across North America and Australia. EnvisionWare’s PC Reservation is the most widely used PC management solution in the world. Other premier products include systems for print management, copier accounting, ILS-enabled point of sale, and turnkey RFID/AMH systems.

Plano Public Library System Moves to EnvisionWare
Plano, TX Plano Public Library is the latest library system to migrate to the EnvisionWare Suite from a competitive solution, joining nearly 1,000 libraries that have migrated to EnvisionWare PC Management from legacy systems.
Mike Monk, Vice President and co-founder had this to say, “Our business plan projected a slow down as the library community reached a point where a majority of libraries had a PC management solution. We did not predict or imagine the huge influx of new customers that would be migrating from other systems.” Rob Walsh, President, added “Fortunately, we developed tools when the first large scale migration occurred in 2006, and we have capitalized on the point-and-click import utility that captures data from other systems and moves it easily into our solution. The only data we need to consider migrating is the print deposit account because our system links directly to the ILS for validation which in this case is Polaris, a system from one of our strategic partners.”
The Plano Public Library consists of five community libraries serving citizens of Plano and Collin County, Texas. The library circulation is approximately 2.6 million items. The library first offered Internet access in July of 1995 and adopted Comprise for PC and print management in 2004, and began considering a change in early 2006. The library recently migrated to Polaris and acquired their choice of PC Management suite as part of that migration.
EnvisionWare is the world’s largest supplier of end-to-end self-service solutions. Celebrating the tenth anniversary of EnvisionWare’s LPT:One™ print cost management solution, EnvisionWare continues to set the bar for innovation and ease of use in self-service for libraries. Atlanta, GA As head of one of the leading Agile development organizations in the world, and an advocate and teacher of the methodology, Rob Walsh, President and Chief Architect of EnvisionWare, is regularly invited to speak at conferences around the world. Walsh is an accomplished software architect, speaker, and author on a range of topics related to software and testing. He has been invited to speak on “Software Testing in an Agile Environment,” at the JAOO developer conference in Aarhus, Denmark in September of this year. Walsh will be on a tour of Europe to explore new technologies, speak, and to collaborate with some of EnvisionWare’s strategic partners. Information about the conference is available at http://jaoo.dk/speaker/Robert+Walsh. Walsh offered these comments, “Our success in the rapid delivery of new products and features to meet our customer’s needs in the most widely adopted self service technologies for libraries around the world, is a testament to the guiding principles of Agile development. I practice and share the Agile principles because they provide exceptional customer satisfaction for our global community of users.”
EnvisionWare adopted the Agile development philosophy in 2002. Agile provides, as the name says, AGILITY. The Company creates a quarterly release plan and then works in two-week iterations to define and develop products and enhancements. The result is frequent releases of small sets of new features across a broad product line. Another fundamental of the process is test-driven development. A developer starts by writing a test asserting successful behavior in a product. This test initially fails since the new functionality does not yet exist. Code is then written to perform the task, thus allowing the test to pass. There are roughly the same numbers of lines of code in the test code as there are in production code. This means that the Agile developers can make dramatic changes and still be assured that all prior functionality is retained. The product tests itself. Newer EnvisionWare products are the result of the complete Agile process and older generation designs are incorporating the new code in phases.
EnvisionWare is the world’s largest supplier of end-to-end self-service solutions. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, EnvisionWare excels at technical innovation and customer support. The EnvisionWare RFID and AMH solutions are built on open standards. EnvisionWare is the largest provider of turnkey end to end self service solutions for libraries. Westlake, OH Westlake Porter Public Library is the latest library system to migrate to the EnvisionWare Suite from a competitive solution, joining over 1,000 libraries that have migrated to EnvisionWare PC Management from legacy systems.
Debbie Bruno, Regional Manager of EnvisionWare, offered these comments, “We have enjoyed working with the staff of the library as they planned their purchase and migration. The library was concerned about a rapid deployment and a smooth migration. Our field engineers have developed tools that make migration easy, having moved hundreds of sites from the competitive system to EnvisionWare. We were successful in planning, configuring, and installing the system in just thirty days. That’s part of our commitment to painless migration which is an essential cornerstone of our service offering.”
The Library offered these comments to a potential new user moving from the same competitive product, “We just completed our conversion to Envisionware and I can say it went exceptionally well. In fact, it was far easier …than the original … installation. The technician was able to export and import the … printing database so that no patron would lose money from their "printing account." The two systems do have some differences at the patron user interface level but Envisionware works so much smoother than our … system ever did that the adjustment has gone very well.”
Westlake Porter Public Library is located in the city of Westlake which is in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The circulation is approximately 1 million items and the service area population is 36,750. Approximately 70% of EnvisionWare’s customers are single building libraries. The design of PC Reservation® is well suited to libraries of all sizes. It connects directly to the ILS for validation. Westlake is a SirsiDynix Unicorn customer. EnvisionWare’s software uses all of the enhanced SIP2 fields to make patron access rules and to control filtering for many libraries.

Susie Thorpe, Sales Manager for Asia Pacific, processed the signed agreement just hours ago in Australia.

Bucks County Public Libraries Migrate to EnvisionWare Suite
Doylestown, PA The libraries of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are migrating from a legacy PC management solution to EnvisionWare PC Reservation®, LPT:One™, and BarcodePlus®.
Early in 2005, the Library began evaluating how they could move to another solution but expressed concern that network infrastructure issues were said to be the cause of their problems with their existing PC management system. Rob Walsh, EnvisionWare’s President, said “Whether a real problem exists at Bucks is in question, but networks in libraries around the world are never perfect, and systems must be designed to be forgiving of network latency or other similar concerns. A guiding principle in EnvisionWare’s architecture is the assumption that it’s our responsibility to build products that work in public and academic libraries around the world.”
EnvisionWare’s Professional Services group collaborated with Library systems staff in the development of a migration plan so that account balances could be migrated, and Library computer services could be seamlessly moved to the EnvisionWare solution without downtime. The process occurred without affecting patrons and the Library immediately realized the reliability of the system they expected to have without any changes to their network infrastructure.
“We approach technical challenges from the perspective that it’s our job to solve the problem. Blaming a customer’s network is not our style. There have been situations in the past where a customer had routing issues or a defective switch, but our Network Consulting Group is charged with the responsibility of locating any network issues for a customer, and point to a fix. Nine times out of ten, there is nothing wrong with a customer’s network. In the hundreds of migrations we have done over the past three years, many customers were told by a vendor that they had a bad network, but it has never been the case,” added Mike Monk, Vice President of EnvisionWare.
“We are excited to have Bucks County as our new customer and we appreciate the collaboration of our partner, Sirsi, who sold the solution to the Library and who made the process fast and easy,” commented Debbie Bruno, EnvisionWare Regional Sales Manager for the North.
EnvisionWare is the world’s largest supplier PC management solutions. All EnvisionWare solutions are designed and priced to fit the needs of every size and type of library. The same EnvisionWare’s PC management systems are installed in libraries with three PCs and thousands of computers.
