Hale School Becomes First RFID Library in Western Australia

Wembley Downs, Western Australia Jo-Anne Shaw, Director of Asia Pacific Operations, announced today that Hale School has selected EnvisionWare Renaissance RFID as the RFID solution for its new library.

Hale School is the oldest independent boys’ school in Western Australia. It opened its doors on 28 June 1858, with an initial enrolment of 22 students. The School is an Anglican day and boarding school, offering primary and secondary education through to Tertiary Entrance Examination level. An exciting new Library Resource Centre will open in 2009.

Robin Wake, Head of Library, said “Hale School has a long and proud history of achievement, dating back to 1858, but we are very focused on meeting the contemporary needs of our current and future students and preparing them for the world of tomorrow. The introduction of RFID will free staff time to allow our library team to expand our focus on the recreational and curriculum needs of the boys rather than on the check-in and check-out of library materials. Additionally, RFID technology provides our students with a model of cutting-edge technology used in their day-to-day environment, a learning tool in itself.”

The RFID project involves tagging all stock, and the installation of RFID gates, OneStop™ self circulation for students and the EnvisionWare suite of staff RFID applications. EnvisionWare Branch Manager™ will provide the library team with alerts from the security gates (displaying the title that alarmed the gates) as well as alerts from Onestop™ (including out of paper and ILS offline alerts along with help requests from students). The library will also implement EnvisionWare LibraryPDA™ to provide circulation while staff are in the library stacks, along with item searching and shelf order checks.

Jo-Anne Shaw, Director of Asia Pacific Operations for EnvisionWare commented, “We have found Robin and the library team to have a wonderful vision for their new library and how it should function. Robin clearly understands the benefits that RFID technology that will bring to the new library. RFID will enable her library team to deliver the Next Generation of services while freeing staff to provide even higher levels of service and support to their students. We welcome Hale School to our growing family of RFID schools.”
