Bucks County Public Libraries Migrate to EnvisionWare Suite

Doylestown, PA The libraries of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are migrating from a legacy PC management solution to EnvisionWare PC Reservation®, LPT:One™, and BarcodePlus®.

Early in 2005, the Library began evaluating how they could move to another solution but expressed concern that network infrastructure issues were said to be the cause of their problems with their existing PC management system. Rob Walsh, EnvisionWare’s President, said “Whether a real problem exists at Bucks is in question, but networks in libraries around the world are never perfect, and systems must be designed to be forgiving of network latency or other similar concerns. A guiding principle in EnvisionWare’s architecture is the assumption that it’s our responsibility to build products that work in public and academic libraries around the world.”

EnvisionWare’s Professional Services group collaborated with Library systems staff in the development of a migration plan so that account balances could be migrated, and Library computer services could be seamlessly moved to the EnvisionWare solution without downtime. The process occurred without affecting patrons and the Library immediately realized the reliability of the system they expected to have without any changes to their network infrastructure.

“We approach technical challenges from the perspective that it’s our job to solve the problem. Blaming a customer’s network is not our style. There have been situations in the past where a customer had routing issues or a defective switch, but our Network Consulting Group is charged with the responsibility of locating any network issues for a customer, and point to a fix. Nine times out of ten, there is nothing wrong with a customer’s network. In the hundreds of migrations we have done over the past three years, many customers were told by a vendor that they had a bad network, but it has never been the case,” added Mike Monk, Vice President of EnvisionWare.

“We are excited to have Bucks County as our new customer and we appreciate the collaboration of our partner, Sirsi, who sold the solution to the Library and who made the process fast and easy,” commented Debbie Bruno, EnvisionWare Regional Sales Manager for the North.

EnvisionWare is the world’s largest supplier PC management solutions. All EnvisionWare solutions are designed and priced to fit the needs of every size and type of library. The same EnvisionWare’s PC management systems are installed in libraries with three PCs and thousands of computers.
