24-Hour Library Closes the Service Gap for Little Elm Public Library

When you think of Texas, lakes and beaches aren’t typically the first thing that springs to mind. But for the Town of Little Elm, a community located in northwest Texas, the 66 miles of shoreline of Lake Lewisville is at the heart of the community. While certainly a benefit to residents, the lake also presents a natural barrier through the town. For the Little Elm Public Library, which is a one branch library, the lake presents a particular challenge when it comes to accessing library services.

With the community booming, Town of Little Elm staff looked for a creative solution to expand library services to better reach residents across the lake. EnvisionWare’s 24-Hour Library proved to be that solution. The 24-Hour Library enabled the Library to become a multi-branch system practically overnight, and without the expense and time of building a new branch.

When selecting the location, the 24-Hour library was installed across town from the main library and intentionally located at a fire station. The fire station not only provided a safe place for patrons to visit at any time of day or night, but the location also had additional advantages with respect to electricity, network cabling and covering the kiosk. The library also saved money by extending the roof to cover the kiosk instead of installing an awning.

Since the grand opening, the Library has seen a steady increase in repeat users, including patrons from the surrounding communities outside of Little Elm. They anticipate usage will continue to grow during the warmer months and particularly during summer reading.
